Why We’re Creating Sweet Sensory Pods

When Nat first came up with the idea to reinvent the traditional mums group, I instantly saw the value and the profound impact it could have. The reason behind this, came from my own experience of becoming a mum here in the Shire.

I moved here only two months before my first daughter was due. I knew no one, very little about the area, and absolutely nothing about how to navigate parenting here.

Like many new mums, I was placed in a mother’s group. While I met a few really lovely women, the experience fell flat in many ways. Meeting up was rare, and it always relied on one person stepping up to organise something, which is a lot of pressure amongst strangers.

Several of us ended up signing up for Baby Sensory in the Shire, which was beautiful. Emma, who runs it, is an absolute treasure. But the sessions left no space for us to chat with each other. I found myself leaving, feeling like I’d missed out on what I needed.

Over and over again, I’ve heard similar stories. Traditional mother’s groups often don’t provide the guidance and support we truly need as new mums. That’s where the idea for Pods really comes to life.

What Pods Are All About

We wanted to create a better way from the very start, from sharing introductions and bump pics, to celebrating each birth announcement, to finally meeting up in an easy, sensory rich play environment where all the planning, set up and clean up is handled.

Because playdates aren’t just for the kids. They’re for us too. They’re for the mums who need someone to talk to about the sleepless nights, the small wins, and the “is this normal?” moments. They’re for the friendships that carry us through.

That’s why Pods matter. They’re about building the community I wish I had when I was starting my journey, one filled with celebrations, support, laughter, and shared understanding.

I can’t wait to kick things off and see these Pods come to life. Shout out to Nat, who once again came up with a game-changer of an idea!
